Urban Sanctuary: A Safe Haven for Community, Nature, and Inclusion
Urban Sanctuary recognizes the challenges faced by the SGL & 2SLGBTQ+ community, including discrimination, lack of safe outdoor spaces, and limited access to wellness-centered environments. Many individuals within the community struggle to find spaces where they can freely express themselves, connect with nature, and engage in activities without fear of judgment or exclusion.
Our work at Urban Sanctuary directly addresses these needs by providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds. We offer outdoor adventure activities, community events, and nature-based experiences that promote healing, connection, and joy. Our farm and lakefront property serve as a retreat for individuals seeking peace, empowerment, and belonging.
We prioritize inclusivity in our programming, ensuring that our adventure rentals (ATVs, kayaking, tubing, and more) and community events—such as retreats and social gatherings—are open and affirming to all. We actively collaborate with diverse groups to host events celebrating identity, wellness, and self-expression. Additionally, we are working to develop dedicated programs that center on mental health and resilience, recognizing the unique struggles the SGL +2SLGBTQ+ community faces.
Through Urban Sanctuary, we aim to create a refuge where people can not only enjoy outdoor activities but also build a sense of community, empowerment, and safety in a world that often marginalizes them. By fostering a space of acceptance and adventure, we help bridge the gap between personal well-being and the freedom to thrive authentically.
